The white-carpeted, formal room where Chen Xuyuan speaks to visitors, on Xiao Yangshan island, is a busy place. Mr Chen, president of Shanghai International Port Group, plays host to a constant stream of dignitaries from elsewhere in China eager to see the container port Mr Chen'S company has built on the rocky island, linked to the mainland by a 32.5km bridge. It is one of the most audacious engineering feats even in a part of China which excels at them.
However, Mr Chen makes it clear that he wants to extend SIPG'S reputation and turn the company into an important international container terminal operator. The strategy came to wider attention last year, when SIPG unexpectedly took a 40 per cent stake in a new container terminal constructed by Danish-owned APM Terminals, part of the AP Moller-Maersk Group, at Zeebrugge in Belgium. The investment was the company抯 first outside China.
The Zeebrugge investment was the first step in pursuing the goal ?set for the company by the Shanghai municipal government, which owns 70 per cent of SIPG-of turning itself into a big international terminal operator. "If we want to become a global terminal operator, it's not enough," Mr Chen says of the Zeebrugge investment. "But the goal isn't something we'lll achieve in a short period of time."
SIPG's pursuit of international expansion will take it down the same route as three of the existing four biggest international container terminal operators --Hong Kong's Hutchison Ports, Singapore's PSA and Dubai's DP World. All started from a base in one of the world's busiest container ports and used them to build up reserves of finance and expertise which were used to buy or build assets elsewhere.
Two of the big operators -PSA and DP World -are owned by arms of their state. Mr Chen says he sees no immediate prospect of the municipal government's reducing its stake. The holder of the remaining 30 per cent is the listed China Merchants Group. Mr Chen accepts SIPG shares features with other big port operators. March 12, 2007—Golden Bear Ceramics, a subsidiary of Emgold Mining Corporation, is introducing stone tile manufactured from 100% waste material.
Golden Bear's stone building products, which include floor and wall tiles as well as roofing tiles, are manufactured using the Ceramext technology. Golden Bear has made significant advances in the technology in the past year, the company says, dramatically improving the quality and marketability of its products as well as building a successfully operating pilot scale plant. High quality polished floor tiles have been made for a showcase installation in Auburn, California as well as for display to potential distributors. The tiles were made with waste from a large aggregate producer in California. In addition Golden Bear has successfully produced tiles from other waste materials including fly ash, volcanic tuff, mine tailings and a wide range of other industrial wastes. These different materials have also been blended to create different colors and textures.
The increased roof reflectance results in lower interior temperatures and air conditioning demands placed on the electrical power grid. In 2008 it is expected that the State of California will introduce Title 24, a statewide initiative that will mandate the use of Cool Roof technology. About Ceramic TileThis type of flooring is available in sizes anywhere from one square inch to eighteen square inches. The very small, one square inch size is great for very high traffic and moisture prone areas, like swimming pools. The largest tiles aren’t the best choice for high traffic areas, but they are very popular for creating a vast, open feel. How is It Made?Ceramic tile is made from clay, and/or other minerals, and material is fired in a kiln. Then clay tiles are treated in one of two ways: glazed or unglazed. Glazed tile has color added to it after firing, and allows for brighter colors, and increased stain resistance. These tiles are usually used on walls and countertops, because they have a very slick and glassy surface. Unglazed tiles are sometimes referred to as quarry tiles. The pigment and color in these tiles is natural, and these tiles must be sealed for stain resistance.

Why does this happen?
In some cases it is just because one stone type looks like another, but very different type. A good example is that many polished granites look like and are referred to as marble. A quick test is a drop of swimming pool (muriatic) acid to the underside of the stone. Limestone and marble will fizz, granite will not. See acid sensitivity link below.
Another issue is that each year, manufacturers have become increasingly better at producing products that look like something else. There are many more choices of color, texture, style, density, patterns, etc. Some clay products look like traditional concrete products (i.e. pavers).
